Headstones and Custom Monuments

Every headstone and monument we create is custom-designed and fabricated at our Butler, NJ workshop. Whether you need a traditional granite upright, a companion headstone for two, a family monument for three or more, or a completely custom shape — our artisans design it and build it here. No outsourcing. No generic catalog pieces.

We work in Jet Black African granite, Barre Gray, Mahogany Red, Royal Blue Pearl, marble, and bronze. Visit our showroom to see and touch actual samples before you decide.

Monument Engraving, Etching, and Lettering

Our engraving services cover new monuments and existing ones. We add names, dates, and inscriptions to newly fabricated stones and we return to cemeteries to add information to existing memorials — most commonly when a surviving spouse needs to be added to a companion stone. Portrait etching, custom artwork, and multi-language inscriptions are all available.

Headstone Restoration and Refinishing

Northern NJ winters are hard on older memorials. We restore leaning, sunken, and weathered monuments — cleaning stone, re-cutting faded lettering, repairing structural damage, and resetting foundations. If a headstone in your family’s plot looks neglected, we can bring it back to its original dignity.

Cemetery Stone Setting

Professional stone setting means the difference between a monument that lasts generations and one that shifts and settles. We prepare foundations, coordinate with cemetery staff, and install monuments with precision. All Monroe Monuments orders include full installation. We also set stones purchased elsewhere.

Mausoleum Design and Building

For families seeking an above-ground legacy structure, Monroe Monuments designs and builds custom mausoleums from concept through construction. We handle structural engineering, cemetery permitting, and all construction work. Our mausoleums are built in granite to withstand New Jersey weather for generations.

How the Process Works

Every project at Monroe Monuments follows a clear, straightforward path. The first step is a conversation — by phone, in person at our Butler showroom, or through our online Quick Quote form. We discuss what you need, what cemetery is involved, and what your timeline looks like.

From there, we handle design, material selection, fabrication, and cemetery coordination ourselves. You receive a digital proof of any monument or engraving work before production begins. We do not start cutting until you approve what you see.

For engraving additions to existing monuments, we often visit the cemetery to assess the stone before quoting. For new monuments, you can see finished examples and touch granite samples at our showroom. For restoration work, we visit the site to assess the stone’s condition and explain what is feasible before you commit.

After installation, we confirm the work is complete and properly placed. If anything needs adjustment, we address it.

Pricing and Estimates

Monroe Monuments offers free estimates on all cemetery service work. We do not charge for site visits or design consultations. Pricing is transparent — we explain what each element costs and why, and we do not add hidden fees.
